Any Bengal Cat Summermist acquires for breeding is brought directly to our veterinarian before arriving at our home. The purpose of this is to have what is called a Feline GI Profile PCR Test performed. This is a DNA test of the Bengal’s stool to determine if any parasites/bacteria/virus tested by this test are present. We are a negative cattery for these microbes: Feline Parvo/panleukopenia, Tritrichomonas foetus, Campylobacter jejuni/coli, Cryptosporidium spp, cryptosporidium felis, Salmonella spp, Giardia spp, Clos diff Tox A/B and Clos partringens ent. This test assures that none of these infestations are brought into our cattery. Some of these parasites are zoonotic and incurable, so we must insure they do not get into our cattery. This assures our clients our cats do not carry any of these contagious problems. This is an expensive test, but well worth protecting us and our clients.
Summermist raised kittens receive the best of care during their initial 10 – 12 weeks of development with us. During this time, the mother receives the best nutrients to support her litter. All litters are whelped and raised in our home. Each litter is kept in their own room. As they grow and mature they are handled for socialization, learning to eat food when ready and receive vaccinations against the most prevalent viral diseases. Our clients are given our complete Care & Feeding Package to assure they are able to maintain the right diet and care for a Bengal kitten/cat.
Summermist breeds Bengal cats to improve the breed and to hopefully have a show prospect with the most artistically designed patterns and wonderful personalities including good conformation and health. We offer the kittens to discriminating buyers who are willing to provide exceptional care and love for one of our special kitties.
Buyers must call and explain to us why they want a Bengal and how their life style will provide a lifetime of care for a beautiful Bengal Kitten. This will help us along with the buyer to choose the best kitten for their life style. Further, Summermist has written several articles available on this web site to help a buyer learn about the Bengal Cat.
Once we have the kitten the buyer is interested in the following process is provided:
Each kitten sold will receive a health exam from our veterinarian. Kittens can go to their new homes between 10 and 12 weeks of age. Buyer must provide crate for transporting the kitten; our Care & Feeding Package provides recommendations.
Most of our clients come to Summermist to pick up their kitty and that is what we prefer. Over the years, we have shipped kittens to all US states, Korea, China, Canada, Japan and other parts of the world. As times change, airlines change their rules and procedures making it necessary to review each airline every time we ship. So, if you cannot pick up your kitty here, we will guide you for the best shipping method of air cargo, courier or client carrying kitten on airline.
Each buyer must prepare to home a new kitten and our Care & Feeding Package contains all the guidelines needed to assure the kitty is raised well.
