Summermist Farms in San Marcos, CA.

Summermist Farms is in rural San Diego County, CA where we have space to raise our Arabian Horses, Standard Poodles and Bengal Cats. Our last Arabian won many Championships including Scottsdale Champion Mare and Brazilian National Champion and lives in Uruguay, South America with Princess Olivia. We are actively breeding and showing Standard Poodles with over 50 owner-handled champions to date including a World Winner and Best of Winners at the 1991 Poodle Club of America Specialty Show over 1,000 Poodles. We will be celebrating 50 years in Poodles at the end of 2019. We began breeding Bengal Cats in the year 2000 and by 2007 we had developed three Supreme Grand Champions and won 3rd Best Kitten in the Southwest region.

Sheila Fowler is world renown for her ability to select beautiful animals, show them to their championships and takes her own animal photographs that have earned awards and acclaim from people around the world.

John Graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a BSEE and a Master’s in Computer Systems. His technical ability has provided a solid foundation in terms of structure and movement.

He gives seminars on Canine Locomotion, genetics and "How a Dog Works". He is a published author in the Poodle Review Magazine, Poodle Variety and AKC Gazette. For his article "Breed Standards, Realignment Considerations" he received an award from the Dog Writer’s Association. Also, multiple articles in the Bengal Illustrated Magazine.

There are specific rules and tests at Summermist Bengal Cats for health, nutrition and behavior development. We are a closed cattery which means we do not perform public stud service nor do we send our queens out for breeding. When we add a stud or queen to Summermist, a full Feline GI Profile PCR test is run on any incoming cat to assure there are no parasites, bacteria or viruses being carried by an incoming cat. As a cattery, we must insure incoming cats are parasite, bacteria and virus free to prevent infection of the cattery cats. All breeding cats are DNA tested for PRA and PKdef. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) testing is done when available, although no Summermist cats have been found with HCM we will continue to test. In terms of nutrition, Summermist feeds raw chicken and bone. We do use some commercial canned feed that meets our stringent nutrition policies. Feeding raw is important for both cats and dogs as raw meat contains natural taurine important for heart function in both breeds, but it is significant for cats as they require taurine in their daily diet as their physiology can not produce taurine. Clients adopting companion kittens/cats from Summermist receive our complete Care & Feeding Package along with our consultation for feline nutrition and behavior.
